Hosting a Cooking for Life Class
The Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger (VTCECH) works with host agencies to offer Cooking for Life classes in communities across the state. Classes are offered with agencies that serve the target population for each of the three programs: Cooking for Life: Adult, Cooking for Life: Young Adult, and Cooking for Life: Youth. Participants are low-income parents, teens, and youth.

Host agencies work with the Cooking for Life Coordinator to offer the program in their community. The host agency is responsible for identifying a host coordinator who works closely with the Cooking for Life Coordinator and is responsible for the following:
- Recruiting 12-15 eligible participants who are committed to attending the entire 6-week series
- Identifying a site with a fully equipped kitchen and separate spaces for the nutrition education and childcare, if needed
- Finding childcare providers (volunteers or VTCECH can pay providers)
- Finding a volunteer food shopper
- Assisting the Cooking for Life Coordinator to identify a volunteer chef
- The host coordinator is not required, but encouraged, to attend the series of classes
The Cooking for Life program provides assistance to the local host coordinator, identifies a nutrition educator (the nutrition educator will be an EFNEP paraprofessional, when available), works with the host coordinator to set up a time for the class, provides the curriculum and teaching supplies, provides handouts for participants, promotes the program through local media outlets, and obtains donated food items and incentives for the participants.
