The Hike for Hunger 2007 has now concluded. Stay tuned for information on Hike for Hunger 2008, and congratulations to all of the schools and students that made this year's Hike a huge success!
Join the 11 th Annual Hike for Hunger This Fall

Dozens of schools across Vermont signed up to join the Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger’s 11th annual Hike for Hunger event, which took place the last week of September. This school-based special event inspires students to walk, march and hike across the state to raise money and awareness for hunger and nutrition issues facing Vermont’s children.
This year we also unveiled our Feeding Minds school curriculum for teachers to use in their classrooms in conjunction with the hike. The curriculum uses facts, statistics, and interactive classroom activities to stress the importance of regular and healthy meals while also educating kids about the issue of hunger in our state.
Over $20,000 has been raised by hundreds of students from 31 schools across the state. Schools who were unable to participate in the Hike during the fall months have pledged to don snowshoes and make “Tracks for Hunger” instead while raising money and awareness around the difficult choices facing families during the cold winter months. We hope the large presence will send a strong and clear message to Montpelier that support for food stamps, summer food sites and free and reduced breakfast and lunch programs are integral for the health and development of Vermont’s low income children.
Please contact Eve Frankel, VTCECH’s School and Community Outreach Coordinator, (phone: 802-865-0255) if you are interested in sponsoring Hiking (or snowshoeing!) students at a participating school, or if you would like your school to be involved with the Hike for Hunger event.
